Weak in transition defense

AT FRANKLIN LAST YEAR

No starter wants to dribble left.

All players have a tendency to methodically telegraph passes.

First look in the offensive set to wings is ALWAYS back door cut.

Lost by 20 - Franklin played M2M all game.

Base D was M2M

Off all made three pointers - 1-3-1 three-quarter court trap

Once ball crosses, it is a 1-3-1 / 2-1-2 zone looking to trap the corner

2-2-1 three quarter court; court press after made FT

They don't box out well in this defense, so we can definitely crash the boards, follow our shotsAll starters can be beat off the dribble.

AT COFFEE COUNTY LAST YEAR

Got off to 11-3 lead hitting three 3s and one lay-up.

1 paint touch in first four minutes.

#11 (first man off bench, Sr. last year, hit three 3s in first quarter).

WC DID NOT SCORE FOR THE FINAL 6:16 OF THE FIRST HALF

Down 25-20 at Halftime

Won, 57-52, Coffee Co. played M2M all game.

Opened in 2-1-2 Zone

Allowed several offensive rebounds while playing it

2-2-1 Full Court Press after made 2

Off all made three pointers - 1-3-1 three-quarter court trap

Once ball crosses, it’s a 1-3-1 /  2-1-2 zone looking to trap the corner

Started Q2 with 2-1-2 Full Court Press after made FT

Started Q2 in 3-2 half court zone with #23 at the top

After a Time Out at the 4:16 mark in Q2, went to a 2-3 zone

CC went on 6-0 run against the 2-3 to tie the game and force a TO at the 2:13 mark.

Went to M2M defense after the 2:13 TO.

Started back in 1-3-1 Zone to start second half down 25-20

WARREN COUNTY PLAYER TENDENCIES

PLAYER

STRENGTHS

WEAKNESSES

2 - Corban Felton, 5'9" Sr. - Point Guard

Shooter = Be there on the catch, limit help. Locate early in transition. Can be pressured. Traditional PG, does good job getting them into their half-court sets. Not first option in offense but Decent Shooter

Hit a step back pull up 3 from the right wing at Franklin in Q3; Hit a 3 off the pass from the right wing at Franklin Q4. Can't leave him open.

Inconsistent ball-handler; Forces bad passes when pressured; Struggles to get the ball across half court and start offense when pressured M2M; Weak on-ball defender; can be beat off dribble

24 - Devin Fish, 6'4", Sr. - Wing

Shooter, off dribble, will post, will drive and spin. Everything runs through him. They will want him to touch the ball and score on every possession. Great penetrator. Good Shooter; Can score from long range, mid range and drive

Looks to be main scorer; will shoot from volleyball line; had two "and 1" buckets at the rim at Franklin. Can't let him beat us off the dribble. He knows when help is coming and is good at hitting Reno or Whitlock for easy twos at the rim.

Can be a lazy ball-handler at times; Had his pocket picked off the dribble by Coffee Co.

23 - Keyton Reno, 6'5", Sr. - Big Wing

Athletic post. Turn-around jumper in post. Do not guard outside of 3 / 18 feet. Looks to Score First, Lob Threat, Best Athlete, Best Offensive Rebounder (have to box out get a body on him); crashes offensive glass looking for put-backs. Will take it strong to the rack and initiate contact

Hit a Right Wing Corner 3 off the pass in Q4 at Franklin. They will look to him on SoB and BoB plays to score at the rim.

Will pick up dribble far away from bucket if pressured; Weak shooter, but...Can hit it from the corner in rhythm off the pass; Not a great shooter off the dribble; Undisciplined defender - can be beat off the dribble; Bites on pump fake on D; leaves his feet; Weak FT shooter (0-2 at Franklin)

35 - Deashawn Adams, 6'4" 4-man (Thick Build)

Big Body Wing, Driver, Do not guard outside 3 / 18 feet. Super active all over the court; best all-around rebounder; have to box him out and get a body on him

Hit nice midrange jumper going to his left. WILL LOOK TO SCORE 15 FEET AND UNDER. Probably don't need to guard him at the 3-point line.

Not a great 3-point shooter but will take an open 3.

33 - Chance Whitlock, 6'10" Sr. - Center

Big, physical post. Up and under move. Rim Protector

Nice block in 1-3-1 in first half. Good at finishing at rim when his man helps to stop penetration

Not physical on defense and gives up easy lay-ups when contesting;

Slow guarding his man off dribble

BENCH

3 - Isaiah Robledo, 5'9", Sr. Guard

Quick guard. Physical on ball. Looks to drive and dish. Deep help and dribble to post off. First man off bench; Quicker than Felton #2; Slasher

32 - Canaan Parris, 6'2", Jr. Guard

Long; decent on-ball defender Ball-handling; Turns the ball over when pressured

4 - Anden Green, 5’9”, So. Guard

12 - Luke Simpson, 6’2”, So. Forward

Long wing, will shoot 3. Solid Shooter

3 - Kristopher Robledo, 5'9", Jr. Guard

Small, physical guard. Spot up 3.

21 - Eli Davis, 6’7”, Jr., Center

#30

Lefty. Will shoot 3. Drive first player. Make him go right.

#34

Long, long post.

10 - Maddox Baker, 6’3”, Jr., Guard

New Line-up:
32 Paris (6'2") started the game and the second half in place of 33 Whitlock (they started small with 23 Reno at the 5)
23 Reno nice spin move in paint.
35 is a monster on the offensive glass (we knew this already)
33 Whitlock came off bench and shot a three pointer.
33 Whitlock looks like he has polished his interior post moves a bit (but only shoots from the right block with his right hand).
#30 (Lefty) had a nice slashing lay-up to the left side
#30 (Lefty) also knocked down a pull up 3-pointer from the top of the key in transition
Second Half:
Van Buren Played 2-3 Zone.
Warren County only played Man.
Note: Warren County mainly beat the zone by pushing in transition and getting buckets on a primary or secondary break.
